Professional Manager Designations
The need for a meaningful professional standard for persons managing the services and resources of our economy was recognized as early as 1942, and led to informal discussion involving business, government and academic leaders. During the late 1950’s these discussions developed into inter-disciplinary studies, culminating in 1967 in an official report which recommended the establishment of a “Professional Manager” designation.
The P.Mgr. designation denotes an academic and practical Canadian experience background which will permit business to look at the holders of this designation with reasonable confidence as to their management skills.
Thomas Ritter, Chapter President, Louise Doberstein, Vice President of Membership, along with Steve Lupky, Director of Professional Managers presented the Professional Manager recipients with their parchments.
Congratulations to our newest Professional Managers
Heather Kozubski and Christine Makichuk!
On behalf of all the CIM Manitoba Chapter Board of Directors, I want to thank all the members and supporters of CIM for all your assistance and help this past year. To everyone who received awards, Congratulations again!

Notice of Name Change:
In 1990, the Corporation’s Articles were amended to establish the name “Canadian Institute of Management – Winnipeg Branch Inc.”.
Due to recent changes to the Canada Not-for-Profit Act, including changes to the Bylaws of CIM National, it is requested that “Branches” refer to themselves as “Chapters”.
Membership of the Winnipeg Branch has broadened in recent years through distant education and now includes many members who live outside of the city of Winnipeg.
The Directors of the Corporation are recommending that we change our name from “Canadian Institute of Management – Winnipeg Branch Inc.” to “Canadian Institute of Management Manitoba Chapter Inc.”
The resolution is to be voted on at the AGM on the 5th of October 2015. The Board of Directors feels that this change from Winnipeg to Manitoba better reflects our geography and membership.
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. the Articles be amended to change the name of the Corporation to Canadian Institute of Management Manitoba Chapter Inc.; and
2. any one director or officer of the Corporation is hereby authorized and directed to do all things and execute all documents as may be necessary to give effect to this resolution.
The CIM Winnipeg Board of Directors is looking to fill available vacancies for the 2015/16 term. If you are interested in joining, please submit your resume and bio to firstname.lastname@example.org, Attn: Nomination Committee.

Life Member Awards Dinner at Baileys Restaurant.
The Winnipeg Branch Board of Directors hosted an evening at Bailey’s Prime Dining on March 19th to honor two of its newest Branch Life Members.
Mr. William John Antiliff Bulman has been an active member and continues to hold his membership in good standing since 1963. Mr. Bulman has demonstrated outstanding contribution to our branch as he was one of the visionary leaders that established the Canadian Institute of Management which was called the Canadian Industrial Management Association (Manitoba Division) prior to 1970. He has served as a member of our branch as well as a board member while demonstrating outstanding service through his contributions. A very successful business and community leader, Mr. Bulman was inducted as a member of the Winnipeg Citizen’s Hall of Fame in 1988 for his work in Business and Public Affairs. Without Mr. Bulman, the CIM Winnipeg Branch might not be here today.
Mr. George Smith has been an active member and continues to hold his membership in good standing since 1968. He has demonstrated outstanding contribution and service to our branch as a very instrumental for many years with dedication. His main contribution to the program was and is his strong support for maintaining a high academic standard in the classroom. He was responsible for the program management and delivery from 1968 when there were 32 graduates in the program and in his retirement year in 2004 there were 113 graduates. Mr. Smith is the reason we present a Communications Award annually to the student who attains the highest mark in the Canadian Institute of Management’s communication class.
We are honored to have awarded these two gentlemen with the Branch Life Membership Award.
